The purpose of this assignment is to describe the domeroom I the rotunda and lay out the details of it so visitors will be enticed to come visit this historic site in the future. The real purpose of this podcast is to put students in the mindset of a historian looking back in time in order to be able to connect the traditions of the past to the workings of today. This way students can accurately piece together how the past connnects to the present and will connect to the future. This assignment is also so that students can be engaged and excited about the subject because if they are not then people will not want to come on the tour.

Christina Brown - Podcast

For this assignment I had my students create a podcast of a monologue from a Shakespeare play that we would be reading in class. While creating the podcast, I asked them to concentrate on their voice, and how the emotion behind their voice can be used to bring the scene to life for their readers. By using a podcast instead of performing the monologue in front of class, students are forced to truly use their voice as a tool, which is especially useful when studying drama. This assignment was designed for a ninth or tenth grade English class.

Half the class will present the pro arguments and the other half of the class will present the con arguments. After everyone has recorded their arguments, each student will listen to the Podcast for homework and will be responsible for writing a journal response. In this response, students should pick a side and justify why they think they are right. This lesson corresponds with Virginia SOL VUS.10b.

In this podcast, I ask students to choose one of the Spanish poems we have been reading in class and recite it as a podcast, focusing on meaning and emphasis as well as good pronunciation in Spanish. This will be a good exercise in getting comfortable with speaking Spanish, while becoming more familiar with a concrete piece of literature and history. In later assignments, students will be asked to analyze the poem that they make into a podcast.

This assignment is for an 8th grade English class. It requires students to read two cinquain poems out loud with the feeling and emotion that they want to convey to their audience. Afterwards I would ask them to talk about what aspects of each of their poems they found to be strong, as well as which aspects they think might need improving. Besides giving them a new sense of pride in their work, the podcast requires them to put thought into how they want it read to an audience. It also gives students an opportunity to think out loud and discuss how they would improve their poetry.

This is a modification of the Our City podcast that we heard on the WillowWeb sample podcast. However, instead of talking about the city where the students live, they will talk about the Representative that represents the Congressional district in which they live. Students would write a brief biography of the Representative and record their voices while reading it.
